Fitness is a big part of my life. All through high school, and immediately after, I was extremely overweight – actually obese. I got up to 230 lbs at one point. This was mostly due to unhealthy eating and lack of exercise. When I was about 20 (2001), I started the Atkins diet, and started working out, and lost about 60 lbs in 5 months. I kept most of it off, until I quit smoking and gained about 30 lbs back. I was pregnant in 2005, and when I went in to have my son in 2006, I was back up to 230 lbs. YIKES.

Fast forward to 2007. I had been working at the YMCA as a member service rep, but never worked out there. One day, I met a friend who started as a member there, and she was also an instructor. I started taking her classes (mostly spin and boot camp), and started eating much healthier. I finally got down to about 130 lbs at my lightest. I am not there anymore, but I have remained very active, and even got certified as a group exercise instructor in 2011. Now, I can’t imagine my life without exercise. It’s like therapy to me, and I currently teach 2 spin classes a week at the Jordan YMCA.

I continue to struggle with my eating (also see my beer page!), but I am glad I can at least do most of it in moderation, and still remain active!
